anthidium ~ wool carder bees

There are bees that are "fun to watch" and then there are wool carder bees. The loud and bellicose males assert their claim on a flower patch by dashing and crashing at any bee that dares pay a visit. They are often cited as the first non-honey/bumble bee a new enthusiast notices. North America has 36 species of these dazzling bees, and is beset by one very common non-native species, Anthidium manicatum, that can now be found just about anywhere.
