colletes ~ Cellophane bees

colletes-onion-home-20200718.jpg

These are handsome bees, all covered in gray and white hairs. When their wings take them aloft, they bring a distinguished meandering to the flower patch. Their common name stems from the plastery, cellophane-like lining they create to waterproof the next generation. Other common names include cellophane bees and polyester bees.
