lasioglossum ~ Base-banded furrow bees

Most people call these "sweat bees" but I use the English name, base-banded furrow bee. It sounds nicer and doesn't elicit the creeps. They have bands of hair on the base of their abdominal segments, differentiating them from their Halictus cousins. These are ground nesters that benefit from a little bare ground around your garden habitat.
